Find answers to common questions about our Nature-Based STEM Summer Camp
Sprout and Sky is a Nature-Based STEM Summer Camp in Vero Beach, Florida, designed for children ages 5-8. We focus on outdoor learning, environmental education, and child development through natural experiences. Our camp combines structured activities with free exploration, allowing children to learn about nature while developing essential life skills.
Our camp is special because we're entirely nature-based, with all activities taking place outdoors. We maintain small group sizes for personalized attention, and our curriculum is guided by 5 core principles that focus on character development, environmental stewardship, and natural curiosity. We're not just entertaining children—we're helping them grow into confident, compassionate, and environmentally aware individuals.
Children engage in a wide variety of nature-based activities including bug exploration, plant identification, nature crafts, outdoor games, water play, shelter building, and environmental observation. Each week has a different theme, and activities are designed to be age-appropriate, educational, and fun. We balance structured learning with free exploration time.
Our day runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and includes morning circle, themed activities, snack breaks, free exploration time, lunch, afternoon adventures, and closing reflection. We maintain a gentle rhythm that balances learning with play, ensuring children have time to process their experiences and develop at their own pace.
We embrace all weather as learning opportunities! Children learn to dress appropriately and we have covered areas for extreme conditions. Light rain becomes a chance to explore water, while hot weather leads to water play and shade activities. We only cancel for severe weather (lightning, hurricanes) and will communicate any changes promptly.
Essential items include a refillable water bottle, nutritious lunch and snacks, sun hat, sunscreen (applied before arrival), and comfortable outdoor clothing. We recommend a change of clothes, light rain jacket, and small backpack. Please leave electronic devices, expensive toys, and sharp objects at home.
Safety is our top priority. We maintain small group sizes for close supervision, conduct thorough safety orientations, and use age-appropriate activities. Our staff is trained in first aid and emergency procedures. We choose safe outdoor locations and teach children about boundaries and safe exploration practices.
We maintain a maximum ratio of 1 staff member to 6 children, which allows for personalized attention and close supervision. This ratio ensures that each child receives individual guidance while maintaining a safe and supportive environment for exploration and learning.
All staff members are certified in first aid and CPR. We have emergency protocols in place and maintain communication with parents at all times. In case of an emergency, we immediately contact parents and emergency services if needed. We also require emergency contact information and any relevant medical information for each child.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying of any kind. Our camp promotes kindness, respect, and inclusion for all children. We actively teach conflict resolution skills and encourage children to speak up if they experience or witness bullying behavior. Our small group sizes and close supervision help us quickly identify and address any issues, ensuring every child feels safe and valued in our nature-based community.
